Artist Statement

          About the Marker Works and "Canology", (These were a "celebration of materialism") In the late 1960's I began to explore the use of felt-tip markers as a drawing/paining medium. The context of these was pop images (promo ads) that were stylized in my processing of them. By the 1980's, smashed cans became my primary subject matter, categorized as "Canology" series based on their characteristics. These were then more about the value of waste than POP commercialism using ordinary images.

          By 1985, I changed from felt-tip markers to watercolor which is safer to use, more workable, and much more permanent
